FAQS YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

  1. Am I suitable for Tixel skin rejuvenation?

Tixel skin rejuvenation treatments are suitable for both male and female patients. It is used as a treatment for a variety of concerns including fine lines & wrinkles, loose skin in the face, neck and décolletage area, acne scars, uneven pigmentation and sun-damaged skin. As it does not use lasers, it is safe to use in expert hands around the eyes to lift loose eyelid skin.

Although Tixel is suitable for all skin types, people with darker skin may have a slightly higher risk of pigmentary changes, as with all skin resurfacing treatments. Pre- and post-treatment care may be needed to reduce this risk.

If you are over 18, you are suitable for Tixel skin rejuvenation treatment. Occasionally, some people who seek Tixel skin rejuvenation may actually not be suitable, and may require a different treatment (including other non-surgical rejuvenation procedures such as platelet-rich plasma, anti-wrinkle treatments or dermal fillers). As a plastic surgeon, Dr Kian can also advise on whether you may be more suitable for surgical techniques such as a blepharoplasty, mini-facelift or face/necklift. During your consultation, you will be advised on whether Tixel skin rejuvenation is suitable for you.

  2. What will the consultation involve?

At your consultation, you will meet Dr Kian, a fully-qualified plastic surgeon who is trained in both non-surgical and surgical aesthetic treatments. He will take a full medical history including details of previous aesthetic treatments, medications, allergies and smoking. Dr Kian also always takes time to understand what your goals and concerns are.

During your examination, the following will be assessed systematically and standard clinical photographs will be taken for your medical record:

    • Types of fine lines & wrinkles
    • Skin laxity
    • Asymmetry
    • Skin quality
    • Pigmentation
    • Sun damage

Dr Kian will then discuss your procedure with you. He will explain the potential risks and complications of your treatment so that you make a fully-informed decision. There will be plenty of time to answer any questions that you may have and you can rest assured that Dr Kian will give you his honest, professional advice.

  3. What are the contraindications to Tixel skin rejuvenation?

You must not have a sun tan when you attend for your treatment. You will also not be able to have the treatment if you have an active skin infection.

  4. When will I be able to see my results?

Full results take about 4-6 weeks to show. It is recommended that you have a course of 3-5 treatments (approximately 1 month apart) for best results.

  5. How long do the results last?

Results are long term but your skin will continue to age so results usually last 1-2 years. It is therefore recommended after your course that you have maintenance treatments once a year to maintain your result.

  6. How long is the recovery time?

Tixel skin rejuvenation has less downtime compared with traditional CO2 laser resurfacing. After the treatment you are likely to feel heat on your skin, similar to the sensation of a sunburn. The skin may be red and slightly swollen. This usually settles within a few hours. Tiny pin-point crusting settles in 1-2 weeks.

  7. What is the aftercare?

Regular moisturising (every 4 hours) is recommended until the pin-point crusting settles. You can wear mineral make up 48 hours after treatment. Sun avoidance and the use of an SPF50+ sunscreen is recommended for 3 months post-treatment.
